CRITIK
Three years after the conflict in Chernarus, portrayed in the original ARMA II, a new flashpoint in the Green Sea region heats up and coalition forces led by the US Army are sent to Takistan to quickly restore peace and prevent further civilian casualties. Set into the new, visually attractive environment of hilly central Asia, Operation Arrowhead will offer realistic combat simulation experience in a modern day setting with unprecedented freedom of movement, actions and tactics. Players will enlist into various roles within the US Army, from basic infantrymen, through special operatives, to pilots and tank crew in this new installment in the award winning line up of military simulators for PC from Bohemia Interactive.

This stand-alone expansion improves upon the original in almost every way. The Good - Gorgeous new setting - New weapons, both retro and modern - More accessible for newbies - Same great Arma combat - Avoids Arma II's bugs. The Bad - AI drivers still terrorize the roads - Online play can be annoyingly unpredictable. Although 2009's Arma II set a high standard for the all-purpose military simulator, its buggy single-player campaign held it back from achieving its full potential.

If you've got a powerful computer, a fair bit of OCD when it comes to military realism, and a lot of time and patience, then Bohemia's ArmA II: Operation Arrowhead will scratch your itch in ways that Modern Warfare or Battlefield: Bad Company can't. Its anemic story and characters, daunting learning curve and rough-around-the-edges performance are a little off-putting but this is still a high-caliber military simulation, if that's your thing.
