Suzerain is an outstanding political game that’s perfect for anyone who’s ever dreamed of drawing up their own budget or getting into no-win situations, and I loved every minute of it.

Suzerain is unlike most things you can play that’s out right now. The choose your own adventure stylings are fascinating, with rabbit trail upon rabbit trail to investigate. Because of this, you’ll be able to play it again and again, and because they do such a great job with the setting and people you’re going to want to. While some sections can be long in tooth, they only make me appreciate what Suzerain is doing, creating a riveting narrative of what it’s like to be President.

Through its flexible choices and paths, Suzerain avoids the binaries that many choice-based games fall into, and it allows for the stark and realistic depiction of a young democracy. It provides players with a bevy of choices on whether to further corrupt the office, take the country in a new direction, or even just get reelected.

Suzerain is an interesting game with some serious quality behind it. Those who want more machinations in their strategy games, particularly when tied to some characters with genuine depth, will find a lot to love. Suzerain is a must-play for fans of political games, narrative-based adventures, or for those who want to try an inventive concept executed brilliantly. It’s also a great case study in menu-based PC games and how to port them to console, the controls designed with Switch players in mind throughout every step of development. If you’ve ever thought you could make a country thrive under your rule, Suzerain is a great place to test out theories of any political leaning. Whether it be on PC or on Switch, Suzerain is worthy of your vote.
