If you like platformers, particularly the precision type, you’ll probably have a really good time with Panic Porcupine. Sure, it’s resting its hat on another game, but it’s doing so deliberately and with a wink. The controls are good, the physics are familiar, and the level designs are superb. It has all the hallmarks of a pretty great indie platformer, and I’m going to go ahead and conclude that it is exactly one of them. SwitchArcade Score: 4/5 New Releases Smile For Me ($14.99) Here’s an off-the-wall point-and-click style adventure game.

While it initially feels like a simple ripoff of Sonic the Hedgehog, once the difficulty curve kicks in hard it stands on its own Before even getting started I’ll open with the admission that I’ve never been much of a fan of the Sonic series.

Even if some of its levels felt poorly designed, I ended up enjoying Panic Porcupine quite a lot. From its silly premise (never thought I’d give a crap about this game’s plot, but here we are), sublime presentation, and somewhat fair initial difficulty curve, the game did a great job at mixing the gameplay styles from both Sonic the Hedgehog and Super Meat Boy in a cohesive and enjoyable way. There’s little else that needs to be said about it: if you’re into either franchises, Panic Porcupine is a no-brainer.

In the mashup of the year comes Panic Porcupine which is kind of like throwing Sonic and Super Meat Boy into a blender. Overall the challenge of the game is fun to take on but can quickly become overwhelming if your skill isn’t up to it. If you are one that can keep the rage down and is decent at platforming, I would recommend this game. If you are one to need a new controller after dying over and over … and over again, then maybe save your controller and play something easier. This game was reviewed based on Xbox One review code, using an Xbox Series S|X console.

Panic Porcupine isn’t for the faint of heart. If you get frustrated by dying numerous times, then you’re going to have a bad time. On the other hand, if you enjoy a challenge or even want to speedrun, there’s a lot on offer. You’ll need to have reaction speed and accuracy if you want to see Panic complete his journey, and while you might simply assume it’s a Sonic knock-off, it’s more akin to a Super Meat Boy than anything else.

It’s no masterpiece – playing on handheld is difficult because of the tiny sprites, and there are a fair few frustrating stages to balance out the good ones – but it’s a competent 2D platformer that’s worth investigating for fans of the genre. Score: 3.5/5 Nuclear Blaze Nuclear Blaze is visually stunning, with simple pixelart visuals coupled with blazing fire effects being far more effective than it has any right to be.

Panic Porcupine is a fast-paced Sonic and Meat Boy mashup/clone with a fun, vintage feel. Are you looking for a relaxing game? You’ve come to the wrong place; Panic Porcupine is hard. After a while, it can feel a little repetitive too. However, it’s at least easy to pick up, feeling familiar and nostalgic. I recommend it to anyone looking for a challenge.
