Play as the ultimate digital underdog in the Adventures of Pip,an action-platformer with a fresh gameplay twist inside a retro 32-bit world. Alas, Pip is an unlikely 1-pixel hero yet has the unique ability to absorb the pixels of his defeated enemies to evolve into three different forms. Players will skillfully switch between these three forms while exploring five worlds on an epic 10-hour campaign to defeat the Skeleton Queen. Adventures of Pip features a soundtrack by Jake “virt” Kaufman, composer for Shantae and the Pirates Curse, Bloodrayne: Betrayal, Shovel Knight, and more. The game will be available in June 2015 on Steam (PC/MAC), Nintendo WiiU, and coming soon to Xbox One, and PS4.

With a few minor annoyances, the gameplay is fun while also offering a difficulty that I would consider just right. It starts off easy, and gets harder as you get more comfortable with the various forms that Pip can have. The writing is also quite fun in this game as it tells a story without taking itself to seriously which definitely adds to the overall enjoyment of the title. Adventures of Pip is available now on Steam and Wii U for $14.99 with PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions arriving later this summer. ~ Final Score: 9/10 ~ Review copy provided by Tic Toc Games for PC.

Adventures of Pip's unique mechanic makes it stand out from the rest of the platformers I've played; the game makes wonderful use of the mechanic. Challenging enough to not make it a memory platformer but also not dull, this game is sure to charm any fans of the genre.

But Why Tho?

Adventures of Pip is a joyful experience that translated well to the Nintendo Switch. Everything runs smoothly and the game itself is an absolute blast to play. The level design was clever, as well as the general premise and game mechanics. It managed to feel like all the platformers I played as a kid on the SNES without being too punishing, essentially offering two methods of play, one for players who just want to beat the game and another for platforming buffs that really want to dig in to all it has to offer.

Adventures of Pip presents a refreshing take on platforming, aesthetically impressive with gameplay to match. I sunk hours into the original, and I’m happy to do so again with this Switch port. Hopefully, this indie from Tic Toc Games succeeds enough to warrant a sequel. Platformer fans won’t want to overlook this one. Adventures of Pip is a charming experience that embraces its pixelated appearance. The platforming can feel occasionally stiff, but Pip succeeds the most when it’s not afraid to have fun with its theme.
