CRITIK
"Inversus is a minimalist action-strategy shooter for one to four friends. It's reminiscent of the board game Othello, except it's running in real time and everyone has guns. Player movement is constrained to opposite colors of a black and white grid. My walls are your paths and your walls are my paths. Each shot flips tile colors in an attempt to block, trap and close in on the enemy. Both online and local couch play are supported. The competitive versus mode pits players against each other in 1v1 or 2v2 battles. There are also single-player and two-player cooperative modes that mix the negative-space combat with a classic score-driven arcade game."

Inversus is an exceptionally well-crafted game, and the thoughtful touches and well-balanced mechanics elevate it far beyond its simple core. Pretty much every element of the game feels like someone spent hours thinking about how to make it just right. This is an excellent game, and I had a huge amount of fun playing it.

Inversus is absolutely for you if you love score chasing, addicting games or if you have local friends to play with. I’m glad it has online multiplayer even though it may be hard to find players on it. I wish the single player mode was a bit longer but other than that the game is great. For such a simple looking game it really surprised me with how fun it turned out to be. * The following game was reviewed on the PS4.

INVERSUS is a powerful example of how to take one mechanic and give the player the power to explore it. It's at its best when two gamers are going after one another, but even the arcade experience is fantastic. There's limited space for exploration, and perhaps the most useful weapon could be a bit easier to use. Still, any fan of shooters or competitive games needs to give INVERSUS a shot, even if they try nothing else. It's clearly the best couch co-operative game of the year, and with arcade mode and online play available, there's still enough here to make this a classic.

Did I have fun doing my Inversus review? Definitely. The game might seem short, but it has a single player component, an offline and online multiplayer component and leaderboards, so there’s definitely a lot of replay value in this release.
