CRITIK
Sheepo is a quirky metroidvania platformer featuring a shape-shifting sheep-thing, who must traverse an uncharted planet in order to collect samples of each living species for an intergalactic species database. To capture a creature, Sheepo must find their unhatched egg, which happen to be highly guarded by that species "queen" (aka, a boss.) With each egg Sheepo collects, you then gain the ability to transform into that creature on contact, and explore the deeper reaches of the planets sprawling environment Sheepo is a metroidvania, but contains no standard combat. Instead, gameplay is based on platforming and exploration. With the collection of each creature, Sheepo is able to dig, fly, and teleport across an interconnected series of landscapes, uncovering hidden shrines, old ruins, and strange characters.

It’s a gift to play such an immersive and transporting independent game that eschews intricate ambitions to instead deliver such a consistent and artful feel within its small scope. Players should take only a handful of hours to complete the game, but it’s an incredibly effective escape worth twice its asking price. Throw on a decent pair of headphones and drift fully into Sheepo with confidence, and that time will be absolutely rewarded. More: Samurai Jack Battle Through Time Review: Back to the Past Sheepo is available today, August 26, on Steam/PC with a retail price of $8.99.

Sheepo is sort of a goldilocks game, every aspect of the game feels “just right”. The level design and game world are well designed, the difficulty makes the game approachable for many players, and the game doesn’t overstay its welcome thanks to its playtime which is on the shorter, more reasonable side. Whether you’re a platformer fan, a Metroidvania veteran, or a newcomer, Sheepo is a game you should try (and if you do, maybe you could tell me what type of animal you think he is).Become a Patron! Overall, Sheepo is an enjoyable, under-the-radar addition to the Metroidvania genre. While some puzzle aspects and bosses can become predictable, the game is well executed in design and is quite a quirky adventure from top to bottom. So take an adventurous leap alongside Sheepo!

It’s pretty impressive for a game to go from not being on my radar to one of my favorite Metroidvanias in recent years, especially in a year that had the release of Metroid Dread. Sheepo does almost everything right, and only frustrated me because it was over so soon. But if you enjoy Metroidvanias and want to try something delightfully different, you really need to check this one out.

After getting encapsulated in the wonderful yet horrific world of DUSK, I decided to play something different. Sheepo is a very calming, therapeutic experience. Instead of blasting through hordes of enemies, I learned to carefully manoeuvre the world around me and manipulate the enemies to act under my command. Did the passive gameplay leave me counting sheep? Or did I enjoy this mission? Find out in this Rapid Review. Blast Off! To begin my adventure in Sheepo I watched the main character waking up just before his first mission.
