Overall War Tech Fighters brings about an amazing Mech experience to the table. With plenty of customization, missions, training and more, it won’t take long before even the greenest rookie becomes an ace as they head out into yet another mission.

I would say War Tech Fighters does a fairly good job of living up to the claim of combining anime with blockbusters. The action is fairly steady throughout the game. The ability to upgrade and customize your War Tech is tons of fun. Aside from the load times, everything about this game says yes. If you’re looking for a ton of action, War Tech Fighters is certainly a game you should try. The sky is the limit in War Tech Fighters. Despite looking a bit dated in places this game has proven to be one of the surprise hits in 2019, and it is a far bigger game than it first appears. There is plenty of variation in the mission structures to keep you entertained, and even after destroying thousands of enemies it is still incredibly satisfying blowing up the next one immediately after. The game doesn’t force plot-heavy elements down your throat either, but likewise there is an extensive section detailing that information if that’s your thing.

If having giant robot battles in space is your jam than War Tech Fighters is probably worth jumping into. While the story is forgettable, the actual combat and ability to upgrade and customize the War Techs was very satisfying and engaging to me. More variety in the visuals and the mission design would’ve helped make this something really special but I still feel like this is worth checking out despite those faults. *War Tech Fighters is out now on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC.

War Tech Fighters wears its influences on its sleeves, with series like Macross, or rather Robotech in the case of the title, likely serving as a major source of inspiration. Franchises like Gundam and Transformers almost certainly played a part as well. For mech fans, there is certainly something to be said for the customization that War Tech Fighters brings to the table. Beyond that, there is a solid space game that unfortunately doesn’t make the best use of the mechs themselves. If you’re a fan of one or the other, you may lose interest, but as an avid fan of both, I found plenty to enjoy.
