Stonefly provides an intriguing premise that lends itself to strange and fantastical gameplay. With an emphasis on aerial piloting, the combat and exploration give ample control while not feeling too fast for the laid-back spirit. While it can be confusing to shuffle through the various materials, power-up formulas can be brute-forced when necessary. Stonefly smartly lets the player control its tempo without lingering for too long, which appeals to all kinds of gamers. This post may contain Amazon affiliate links.

Out of all the indies I've played recently, Stonefly stands out as one of the most unique and immersive; I highly recommend playing it.Stonefly gameplay video → King of Seas Review PlayStation 4 ★★★★☆ If you're looking for a more relaxing game then King of Seas is here so chop off a leg, snap in a peg and let's take to the high seas. Just like Stonefly, King of Seas is another game that took a long time to grow on me.

Even with those bouts of frustration, Stonefly is a thoroughly unique game that has novel gameplay ideas and a wonderful story. Dancing around the world while piloting your mech, trying to find emotional catharsis for your heroine while also beating up some bugs so you can get more resources to upgrade your current ride is a heck of a gameplay loop. It’s well worth experiencing if you want a chill adventure.

A unique take on a popular genre, which I suppose is mechs. I don’t know if it’s a genre of its own but there are games entirely based on using them. The fighting is awesome and the story is calm and simple. The biggest issue was actually navigating the areas. With slim branches and a camera that is way too close, you’ll be respawning quite often and feel stuck sometimes. The invisible walls need to be shortened, because you can glide for an extreme amount of time going nowhere important before you realize you can’t land on anything. I spent around 10 hours playing with another few sitting idle while I multi-tasked. It’s a really pleasant experience and will eventually grow on you. Score: Highly Recommended Stonefly was published by MWM Interactive and developed by Flight School Studio on Xbox One.

Stonefly is a strong indie featuring tiny humans in tiny mechs vying with the bugs of the forest canopy for resources. Its tale is enough to drive you through a 10-hour campaign with little embellishment, and its mech-customisation and mineral-gathering systems are satisfying, intuitive, and purposeful. Pacifist bug combat is fast and frenetic, but also plagued with fiddly controls and a few too many abilities to be comfortable. Stonefly is available on Xbox One (review platform), Xbox Series S|X, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam or Epic Game Store.
