Depending on how you feel about the ability to simulate games, it is a tough sell for players of last year’s game to upgrade, but if this is your first R.B.I. Baseball game, this is the one to get. A copy of this game was provided by the publisher for review purposes.

While its competitor MLB: The Show swings for the fences, R.B.I. Baseball 16 is happy to bunt this year round – and that's okay. The controls are easy to pick up, the games are short and sweet, and the simplicity of it all is what makes this year's edition appealing to casuals. Still, its lack of innovation and modes mean that the title gets to second base – but not much further.

It’s hard to recommend R.B.I. Baseball 16 to anyone but the hardest of the hardcore MLB fan. If you only own an Xbox One and you need a baseball game, I think you will find some enjoyment here. I would suggest those people to check out Super Mega Baseball, which released late last year, for a true arcade baseball experience. I can personally see siblings or parent/child combinations having fun in exhibition mode as their favorite teams.

It does just enough to be a competent game but MLBAM never pushes the game beyond the bare minimum. You could make the argument that it’s an update or homage to the likes of classic RBI Baseball but gaming has evolved beyond that. On mobile, this would probably be a 10/10 game.

R.B.I. Baseball 16 seems like a game specifically designed for fans of the sport and nobody else, but due to some questionable gameplay mechanics and a total lack of respect for the person wielding the controller, it turns out to be a game that only gluttons for punishment will find appealing. A challenge is all well and good, but the player needs to be given the tools to succeed first. REVIEW CODE: A complimentary Microsoft Xbox One code was provided to Brash Games for this review.

Almost a carbon copy of last year's release, R.B.I. Baseball 16 is a simplistic and dull looking take on America's pastime. While Xbox gamers are kind of screwed, there are simply too many options on the PS4 to make this one worth your time.

There just isn’t enough within R.B.I Baseball 16 to recommend buying it unless you’re an absolute diehard fan that needs to own every game in the series.
