Nippon Marathon is a game that is proud to be exactly what it is. There are no pretences or delusions of grandeur, just good clean fun. Playing with friends is sure to bring a fair few laughs as you rain watermelons down on your rivals. Just be prepared to be taken out by sudden barrels and hordes of cute dogs.

Nippon Marathon can certainly be described as a marmite game; you will either love it or hate it. Find a group of friends that all love it and you can easily laugh away an entire evening attempting to out run each other. But it isn’t for everyone, and it is easy to understand why. What to some will look like shoddy game design is actually a very purposeful and conscientious element of the design, but that won’t necessarily sit right with those that like nothing left to chance. Throw in a surprisingly good single player component with an open-minded reviewer, and Nippon Marathon is a very good game. TXH Score 4/5 Pros: - Wacky local multiplayer - Surprisingly entertaining single player story - Catchy soundtrack - If you love it...

Superficially it would be extremely easy to pass on this title. Yet when this title was pitched to me as Onion Soup Interactive’s digital love letter to all things Japan, the inner-weeaboo in me found the title to be oddly charming. I would certainly cast a more critical eye if I were tasked to review this studio’s future titles, but for a first effort this one’s not too bad.

Nippon Marathon isn’t not going to be everyone’s tastes – those eye-wateringly janky visuals (whether by design or not) and the nature of physics-driven racing are an acquired taste that most people are going to tire of, fast. However, look past the surface and there’s a multiplayer experience here that will appeal to fans of Gang Beasts and the like, who just want a silly party game that cares not for seriousness in any form.

Nippon Marathon is a ridiculous bakage game that's a ton of fun with friends but its annoying gameplay is only tolerable in short bursts.Nippon Marathon gameplay video → Override: Mech City Brawl Review PlayStation 4 ★★★☆☆ If you've ever wanted to pilot a giant mech to battle aliens and rivals while haphazardly destroying a city then here's a game for you. It may seem complicated to control a mech but doing so in Override: Mech City Brawl is surprisingly simple.
