I’m curious to see what more there is to McPixel 3. There’s a lot of it I’ve still got to try out and witness the chaotic results of. The slice that I saw so far has been positively silly, borderline crazy… pretty much what Devolver’s so great at fishing up. And those are reasons enough to keep its paltry 140 MB download on my hard drive for the foreseeable future.

In practical terms, this sequel is an outright better game than the original. Better-paced, funnier, and drastically improved in terms of design, with smoother animations and an open-world hub. McPixel 3 is the epitome of “smart-stupid,” a game which revels in its base humor with the express intention of making its players laugh at every step, whether that be through confusion, revulsion, meta antics, or just irreverent resolutions. It's a one-of-a-kind experience, and an easy recommendation for anyone open to some cheap laughs in a world where the points don’t matter. Next: Eastward Review: This Engrossing Indie Action-RPG is a Knockout McPixel 3 releases on multiple platforms on November 14.

I’ll be frank: if you don’t vibe with McPixel 3‘s extremely quirky sense of humor, you’ll have a miserable time with it. If you do? You’ll have a great time chasing down every last gag, good or bad. There were a couple of bits that didn’t work with me (one sequence was way too self-indulgent for my liking), but overall I found the game hard to put down until I had seen every last stupid thing it had to offer. SwitchArcade Score: 4/5 Once Upon a Jester ($14.99) Once Upon a Jester is a unique adventure/rhythm game that makes a really dynamite first impression.
