Last Encounter is a brilliant Shoot ‘Em Up. Exordium Games have really designed a unique styled experience in a class where there’s plenty of competition. With plenty of base customization between the available pilots as well as the ships they can operate, the upgrades become the icing on the cake as you explore the space beyond the gate in hopes of perhaps finding a new start for our just about extinct species.

While I don’t believe that this game is groundbreaking for the genre, I think that it brought unique additions to it. The level design and art style work well with the subject matter of the game. The weapon component system and environmental hazards are a great feature that I have not seen implemented like this in the past.

Last Encounter doesn't reinvent the wheel, but it offers short bursts of frantic fun. The random nature of its procedurally generated space dungeons can sometimes throw the difficulty curve out of the window, which can hamper the experience from time to time, but the game is still enjoyable when it clicks. Next: Warsaw Review: A Tactical Roguelike That Needs Work Last Encounter will be available for the Nintendo Switch on February 21, 2020.

At its core, Last Encounter provides a fun experience that borrows elements from the shoot-em-up, while embracing roguelike qualities of randomization, and implementing plenty of customization. With that said, there are some quirks that get in the way from time to time, between the excessive environmental hazards, to the erratic difficulty curve, and the slow pace of granted upgrades and progression.

With so many roguelike twin-stick shooters out there, Last Encounter remains an overall enjoyable yet middling experience.Last Encounter gameplay video → More roguelike twin-stick shooters Willy Jetman: Astromonkey's Revenge Review PlayStation 4 ★★★★☆ 2D platformers that feature fun shooting gameplay always stand out as memorable so let's see what Willy Jetman is up to. Willy Jetman: Astromonkey's Revenge is a silly game with an oblivious protagonist who chats with his comical AI partner.

While a lot of the basic elements are present, Last Encounter lacks any killer selling points that make it worthy of a recommendation. While building up your ships power with temporary or permanent perks brings enough fun for a few blasts, the bland presentation and performance issues mean there are much better games for you to spend your money on.
