Colt Canyon is an excellent roguelike with razor-sharp gameplay that’s incredibly addictive. The rhythmic action is comparable to titles like Hotline Miami, and there’s a constant temptation to have ‘just one more go’. Some may not be too keen on the heavily-pixelated graphics, but it’s the gameplay that truly shines through here, and once you’ve conquered the steep difficulty curve you’ll find this to be a fine addition to the Switch’s growing selection of roguelikes.

In the end, Colt Canyon is a solid roguelike shooter. The tight mechanics and various characters give most players enough to keep their interest, while the high difficulty and adherence to restarting from scratch on each run makes it appealing to those who are more experienced in the genre. The presentation might be hit-and-miss depending on what you're into, but there's no doubt that it contains a magic that'll keep you coming back after you fail another run for the umpteenth time. Colt Canyon is well worth checking out.

Colt Canyon on Xbox One is a great little randomly generated roguelike. Taking inspiration from the likes of Enter The Gungeon and Hotline Miami, the gameplay is smooth, fun and brutal. As well as this, the addition of a co-op mode adds a great deal to the overall experience.

Colt Canyon offers a relentlessly challenging twin-stick shooting experience that’s both frantic and fun in design, regardless of some early frustrations as you learn how to get… well… GOOD at the game. Admittedly, the challenge can be a little overbearing at times and it doesn’t offer anything that you wouldn’t have seen in the genre before, but the Wild West setting and the satisfyingly quick-paced brutal action do make up for it – especially if you play the game in co-op with a buddy.
