Korgan is a throwback to another time of gaming, with its instantly addictive hack and slash dungeon crawling gameplay. The visuals and sounds are basic, but underneath is a beating heart with a very dependable bit of game design that warrants a play. With the bonus being that the prologue is free, you can give it a go without losing any of your hard earned bucks, gaining plenty of achievements in the process.

I would suggest keeping your expectations low and your mind open when trying out Korgan.

For the most part I found Korgan to be very simple, stiff at times and mostly just alright. It certainly had some unique elements which I appreciated, yet the experience wasn't anything too special.

Korgan is a game that fails on many fronts. The lack of a story is definitely the biggest issue. The world you’re playing in feels empty and lifeless. The characters you’re controlling are forgettable to the extent that you don’t know anything about them other than their class and skills. The enemies are only bad because the game is telling you so, not because you’ve been given any reason to despise them. The objectives in each level quickly become predictable and repetitive.

Despite a few novel ideas, Korgan fails itself with clunky controls, antiquated gameplay, and mindless combat.W

Korgan has the look and feel of a mobile title, albeit with marginally better production value. However, the boring slow combat, poor controls, general lack of meaningful progression and terrible loot system, chases away the main joy that’s typically a standard for this genre. Indeed, the prologue is free to play and as such is open to all, but even that feels like too much to ask. This game was tested and reviewed on Xbox One.
