CRITIK
Wave 1 includes an expanded roster, newly added weapon types, and challenging enemies. Dominate the battlefield as the playable Battle-Tested Guardian or try out the added Flail weapon for Link and Master Cycle for Zelda. These combat styles will come in handy as you face the challenging Apocalyptic difficulty and added enemies like the bomb-throwing Moblin and Giant Chuchu. You can also stop by the Royal Ancient Tech Lab to test yourself with new challenges!

DLC content needs to walk a fine line between substantial and exhausting. Pulse of The Ancients doesn’t always pull it off, but it almost isn’t meant to. This is endgame content, you see. There’s no handholding or pleasant jaunts happening here. This is a vicious gauntlet, a sweaty sprint through harsh plains under a blistering sun. The boss battles are brutal, the Royal Ancient Tech Lab is crazy long, and there’s little relief on the horizon. Players hoping for a victory lap after the main campaign might find one, but only if they fully dominated the base game. Otherwise, Pulse of The Ancients is a tough new challenge that sits neatly at the end of Age of Calamity.

If you're thirsty for more Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity then Pulse of the Ancients certainly has enough content for you to enjoy. Plus, the new character and weapon types are definitely cool but I wish that the actual missions had more substance.

If you were the person to put this game down because it’s an endless slog, then it’s probably not worth the steep price tag. The $20 will get you more content down the road when the second expansion, Guardian of Remembrance, releases in November this year.
