While the improvements to the farm are nice and the plethora of new equipment, animals, visuals, and other additions go a long way to making Farm Simulator 17 the best, it’s also still resting on the same foundation. Having played other Farm Simulator games prior, this feels fairly similar to the rest of them in game play and style.

Farming Simulator 17 is excellent, and has already become my number one go-to “Zen game”. If I’ve had a stressful day, or if I’m just feeling particularly anxious, I can stick Netflix on and quietly tend to my perfect little farm. With its attention to detail, wonderful environments and depth of simulation, if a quiet, relaxing time looking after a farm is something you’d be interested in, you’d be hard-pressed to find something that better fits the bill than this. A review code was provided by the publishers for the purposes of this review. Platform: PC (reviewed), Xbox One, PlayStation 4 Developer/Publisher: Giants Software/Focus Home Interactive Price: £29.99 Release date: October 24, 2016 - Detailed - Gentle learning curve - Relaxing as all heck - Wonky physics - Not massively different from Farming Simulator 15 Farming Sim 17 is one of the most relaxing and endearing games I’ve played.

After ploughing through the tutorials though and spending a little more time, you do start to appreciate just how detailed a game like this is. Being able to grow crops one moment, cut down trees another and then look after livestock the next, it’s a fairly complex game for what would seem like a trivial concept.

The experience also naturally fits with the Nintendo Switch and handheld gaming. The budget to make these games is never big enough for them to look great on the big screen television, but on the Switch, the smaller details aren’t missed (because they wouldn’t be there in the first place), and instead the scale of the game’s world, and its field after field of gorgeous growing crops, becomes the focus.
