Wealth of Nations adds real depth to the game. In one of the explanatory promotional videos about the expansion, the EU4 team explains that many of their games pick up players as they go, rather than, say, an EA published heavily advertised major release, where player numbers peak early.

Wealth of Nations is an admirably focused DLC that basically reworks an entire section of the game. Trade, rather than a gold-farming sideshow, is now a real option to consider when planning your domination of the global landscape.

These new features combine to make trade an even more vibrant strategic opportunity than it was previously. Grand strategy games have always struggled to give players true choices on how to approach their game; Civilization, for instance, is infamous for making it either difficult or boring to attempt anything other than a military victory.

Wealth of Nations adds quite a bit of both major and minor changes to the grand strategy experience and can make the game feel fresh for even the most experienced long-term fan, which makes it a worthwhile investment, especially for those who have already sunk around 100 hours into the game.

Wealth of Nations adds some additional options to the economic subgame, but is by no means an overhaul. It is an OK expansion, given its limited scope and price. * The product in this article was sent to us by the developer/company. Can write a better AI than anybody out there.
