CRITIK
Year 1968. Arctic Circle, Russian North Pole station "Pole 21". The main hero Alexander Nesterov is a meteorologist accidentally caught inside an old nuclear ice-breaker North Wind, frozen in the ice desert many years ago. This steel creature once fought for its life and freedom, but it has fallen into an ice trap and all the creatures on its board lost not only their natural look, but a right to die. Cryostasis is a story about a drama of a Captain and his Ship evolving in the atmosphere of animal fear.

Cryostasis is just a few short steps away from being a video gaming Mona Lisa, and it's still easily an experience worth having.

Cryostasis is a beautiful, yet flawed, gem of a game. It offers up a thoroughly unique experience, that at its height is as breathtaking as it terrifying. The decision to render this as a first person shooter is slightly double-edged though, because as a shooter it’s less of a stunner, but is still a worthy addition to your game shelf. Alan Dexter PCF 83% + Great atmosphere and story + Stunning audio - Not too hot a shooter - Needs a beefy system A sumptuous addition to the Horror/Survival genre, boasting a quality story and atmosphere to die for.

Flawed, but easy to learn and occasionally inspired. Graphics: 8.0 A variety of visual effects and terrific lighting ensures you’ll always be on your toes. Sound: 8.5 Audio is consistently strong, and likely the game’s greatest strength. Difficulty: Easy/Medium There is a bit of frustration, but generally the game’s challenges feel watered down. Concept: 7.5 Just enough to ensure the game stands out among its competitors, even if the execution feels slightly rushed. Overall: 8.1 Despite its problems, Cryostasis is filled with enough clever nuance to warrant a closer look.

The demon-like enemies, while apt enough in their personification of the evils that the crew brought on themselves, are brainlessly simple to slay. Similarly, the puzzles cleverly illustrate elements of the story but require little creative thought to solve.
