Crimsonland is now up there with Super Stardust HD as one of my favourite twin-stick shooters. It may not blow you away with the visuals, but looks certainly don’t matter when it’s packing this much content. Added to the fact that the Xbox One version includes new content, this is a must buy for fans of the genre and for those looking for a fun co-op experience.

Crimsonland is one of those very simple games that is very easy to pick up and play, but extremely difficult to master. Everyone who plays it will have their own idea of the best perks to pick, their favourite weapons and their own tactics in how to deal with certain enemies.

I would recommend this game if you liked Dead Nation as its easy to pick up and play in short or long gameplay sessions. The gameplay is hugely addictive but a bit repetitive.

It’s fast, full of enemies, and has a sweet soundtrack to boot. It’s hard to ignore how powerful Crimsonland makes the player feel as they mow down copious enemies as blood splatters cover the entire field. With a good deal of stages and modes, there’s also reasons to continue playing and better your score.

It's unpretentious and straight-forward in its delivery, and yet, underneath its façade rests an addictive top-down shooter with solid mechanics and a hardcore slant. Crimsonland isn't entirely skill-based -- luck does play a part, for sure -- but old-fashioned reflexes and decision making still make up a vast majority of the equation.

Crimsonland feels like an incomplete game. It has all the gameplay mechanics in place, but its backgrounds, character assets, music, and general presentation look and sound like they were put in for testing purposes while awaiting the real art and music to arrive. The twin-stick shooting at the core is fun, but the experience can’t help but be diminished by nearly every other aspect of the game.
