CRITIK
Set within the cook’s cabin of a fairytale forest, Cook-Out: A Sandwich Tale is a wacky and whimsical adventure - brought to you by the creators of Angry Birds VR: Isle of Pigs, Bait! and Blaston - that challenges up to four players to work together to keep the orders coming for a hungry cast of enchanted creatures in this multiplayer VR game. As players progress through the increasingly hectic levels of the cooking game, they’ll not only prepare meals but will also need to fight off a number of nasty customers who seem absolutely set on making trouble -- like jesters who will hide parts of orders, or thieves who will keep pilfering ingredients. Resolution Games has also cooked up a new casual mode for virtual chefs to take a break from the wild kitchen and cook up meals at their leisure. So put on your aprons… things are about to get messy!

Cook-Out: A Sandwich Tale brings the stress and chaos of being a cook into the comfort of your own home, and that is absolutely a wonderful thing. Playing online with friends is the best way to experience the game, which offers plenty of fun mechanics and challenging levels to play over and over again (including an endless mode). In fact, at only $20, Cook-Out provides a surprisingly large amount of content. Resolution Games’ has cooked up something special with its latest immersive VR title, which is fun and inviting for any wannabe chef. An Oculus Quest copy of Cook-Out: A Sandwich Tale was provided to TheGamer for this review.

Four-player sandwich-making chaos reigns supreme in. Best played with friends, but mostly capable solo, Cook-Out: A Sandwich Tale delivers hours of cooperative chaos. Now we just have to hope that this VR culinary fantasy adventure can find its way onto other platforms so I can burn bread with my pals.

Cook-Out has all the ingredients for a good time in social VR, then, even if it isn’t especially original. A hectic, multi-hour campaign anchors some of the most engaging, demanding and frantically brilliant party gameplay you’ll find in VR. I wish it had gone deeper with its best ideas and embraced the platform more holistically, but you won’t find a better tribute to Overcooked anywhere else inside a headset. Compliments to the chef. Cook-Out: A Sandwich Tale is available on Oculus Quest and Oculus Rift today.

Cook-Out: A Sandwich Tale is very much that Sunday game of Monopoly with the family, where everyone happily shouts at each other when it gets hectic and then laugh about it afterwards. A nicely paced difficulty curve keeps the experience challenging and when all is said and done you can just throw food at each other. This is the kind of social videogame Oculus Quest was made for.
