Cloudpunk is obviously a game made with great love and care. It shines through the visuals, the soundtrack, the city, and most especially the characters. Huxley, Camus, and Ben are easily some of the characters in any video game yet released in 2020. The gameplay is not particularly deep but it is solid and enjoyable in its relaxing way. While Cloudpunk does have a few minor faults (mainly the camera), none of them detract away from what is otherwise a wonderful experience. Get your multipass ready, it’s time to go for a ride.

If you’re even remotely into cyberpunk worlds, Cloudpunk is a game for you. It’s cheap, but the production value is through the roof. I would happily have paid double what this game retails for and still say it’s worth it. Don’t let the screenshots fool you. The world is massive, and the story is all-consuming. There’s a beauty in this game that I can’t quite name.

Cloudpunk isn’t a perfect game, but it comes darn close. At the very least, it’s one of the best cyperpunk experiences available right now. I have no doubt that I’ll be picking up a Switch copy when the game eventually makes its way to consoles, so that I can hop into the incredible cyberpunk world wherever I go. Unlike the streets of Liberty City, the treachery and debauchery in the skies of Nivalis do not in the least bit deter me from wanting to spend more time in its neon city limits. A PC copy of Cloudpunk was provided to TheGamer for this review.

If you’re looking for a casual game with an interesting story and a car AI which was once a dog, Cloudpunk is for you. Despite the few technical issues I had with the game, I can easily highly recommend the game to anyone who likes games they can just put on and relax whilst playing. The voxel art design combined with the cyberpunk theme works really well, delivering a futuristic dystopian city to explore as if someone’s recreated Blade Runner in Lego or Minecraft! The story is linear and choices aren’t too important, but you’ll easily find yourself addicted to the compelling gameplay, unable to stop playing until you find out what’s going on and how you can help the citizens of Nivalis. As I mentioned above, Merge Games have published this title on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch.
