All in all, those looking for something light on exposition and direction but heavy on senseless violence and lonely wandering may find a worthwhile experience here. It bears repeating, though, that this is a much more dour and less varied title than its predecessor The friends of Ringo Ishikawa.

I think this is the perfect case of a game in which its themes and message were crafted with a higher degree of priority than its gameplay loop. Arrest of a Stone Buddha tries to provide players with moments of reflection in between bouts of ultraviolent gunplay, but its actual gameplay loop is so clunky and frustrating that the only thing you’ll want to think once a level is over is “who the hell designed that level”. It could have been a moderately more enjoyable title if the developers had spent more time on the gameplay department, but then again, there are other much better games out there with the same loop and message.

Arrest of a stone Buddha was way too repetitive for me. I didn’t get into the story, and the gameplay was overall frustrating. One thing I did enjoy was the retro graphics and the ambient soundtrack. If you want to checkout Arrest of a stone Buddha, I recommend waiting on a sale.

Arrest of a Stone Buddha is a superficial and empty video game. Despite having some novelty in its setting and ideas, there is simply no semblance of coherent game structure or practical gameplay mechanics. It almost feels like a concept to what could have potentially been a very cool 2D action game, but as it stands Arrest of a Stone Buddha is a pretty meaningless one; one that has been poorly ported and presented on Xbox.
