Anomaly 2 is a sequel to the critically acclaimed Anomaly Warzone Earth. Maintaining the core elements of the original, Anomaly 2 adds new features to the single-player campaign and finally puts your skills to a test in a completely unique experience: the dynamic tower defense vs. tower offense multiplayer mode! In the years following the invasion of Earth in 2018, the planet is overrun by alien machines. Humankind is on the verge of extinction. Banded together in huge convoys, they search the frozen tundra for food and supplies. Since the war, the roles have been reversed: now our species seems to be the Anomaly on a machine-controlled planet. Your convoy, Commander, is called Yukon. Anomaly 2 takes the RTS tower-offense concept from Anomaly Warzone Earth to a new level. The core elements of the original – tactical planning and the on-field Commander to support troops in combat – are spiced up by a number of important new features.

If Anomaly Warzone Earth was any indication that tower offense games were good, Anomaly 2 confirms that they’re amazing. Play the game alone, and you’ll discover a rich Story Mode with enough challenge and surprises to keep you coming back for more.

11 bit studios continues to prove that a little innovation can go a long way. Anomaly 2 capitalizes on what made its predecessor so great by improving on an already unique take on the genre, adding great visuals, and a cleverly crafted competitive multiplayer that tower defense fans will surely enjoy.

Perhaps the most interesting innovation of all is a multiplayer mode that allows one player to play as normal while an opponent takes on the more traditional role of tower defense, setting up alien robot turrets to stop the humans in their tracks. It’s a bit of a game of cat and mouse, with the defenders and attackers repeatedly configuring and reconfiguring their forces, ditching and acquiring new units and towers as battlefield conditions change.

It’s never simple to make a mixture of fast-paced click-happy and slow-paced strategy genres, but Anomaly 2 is a breathing example of that. Not only the tower defense genre fans, but the strategy lovers won’t want to miss a piece of the gripping experience of Anomaly 2.

With issues of a lackluster narrative and trial and error single-player levels, the game doesn't quite achieve the status of a perfect sequel. Yet, Anomaly 2 follows the tradition of the original by setting a new standard for games in the tower offense and defense genres. Rating: 8 Good * The product in this article was sent to us by the developer/company. About Author I've been writing for Gaming Nexus since 2011 and focus primarily on PC games and hardware.
