However, the happy days are short-lived for the Yakuza are tightly connected with the Japanese government. A shady deal that involves the land which Asagao is built on spurs Kiryuu and Haruka back to their old hometown and fights with oppositional Yakuza groups. Fights and political intrigue comes hand in hand, become the rising dragon and protect the sanctuary you have built.

Yakuza 3, 4, and 5 have both the best and worst the series has to offer, which is saying something because those highs are so high and the lows really aren’t that bad. All three games run exceptionally well, and 4 and 5 look like they belong on PS4 alongside Yakuza 0. 3 is a bit rough around the edges, but it’s still a worthwhile entry in the series cannon.

There's no denying that Yakuza 3, even in its remastered form, is rough around the edges -- especially if you're coming off the back of Yakuza 6, Kiwami 2, or Judgment -- but this is still one of the series' better instalments, and for our money, the best of the PS3 Yakuza trilogy.

This is a remastered title done the right way, as it performs perfectly and the revamped localization gives even veteran players a great reason to play it again. This is a pivotal part in Kiryu’s maturation prospect and a must-play for fans of the series as a result.

Yakuza 3 lacks fun combat but it makes up for that with its variety.Yakuza 3 Remastered gameplay video → Yakuza 4 Remastered PlayStation 4 ★★★★☆ Releasing in 2010, Yakuza 4 is yet another solid entry in the franchise.

While a divisive entry to some, Yakuza 3 remains a highlight of the franchise for me, and it feels good to see this much love given to its restoration. A PlayStation 4 code for Yakuza 3 Remastered was provided to TheGamer for review.

Yakuza 3 Remastered may not have received the Kiwami treatment, but still features one of the strongest and emotional narratives in the series. Some may not enjoy the focus to be on Kiryu's "softer" side by taking care of the kids at the orphanage. The mini-games are still great at cleansing the palette, with golfing and karaoke as the highlights, but overall they aren't as strong as previous titles. Shame that the narrative pacing doesn't quite deliver in the second half of the game.Note: Yakuza 3 Remastered was reviewed on PlayStation 4.
