As of writing this, Tokyo 42 is my game of the year. Sure it has its small quirks but there’s nothing here that hasn’t stopped me from loving every hour playing and exploring this world. My very frequent deaths while trying to fight the waves of the final boss aren’t arduous or disheartening, but rather energised by the immediate reloads and desire to get to the bottom of the plot. I personally cannot wait to see where SMAC Games takes Tokyo 42 and where they go next.

With engaging combat and a story to accompany it, Tokyo 42 is a great addition to the ID@Xbox program. The game can be picked up today from both the Xbox Store and Steam, priced at $19.99. Pros: - Beautifully sleek world. - Snappy isometric camera makes for some interesting gameplay scenarios. - Unique but polished gunplay. Cons: - Fiddly controls and architecture obstructing the camera can get frustrating at times. On Tokyo 42's website, the developers boast the game as a beloved blend of Syndicate and Grand Theft Auto, and honestly, they couldn't be more wrong and right. It's both those games in spirit, but twists them into something wholly its own. Tokyo 42 is an isometric cyberpoppunk action-shooter with a city that's worth getting lost in.

Tokyo 42 was certainly a refreshing game with its stunning isometric design and unique mission setups. Each offered a wide range of choices in how they were tackled and this was fun to test out.
