The Karate Kid: Street Rumble sticks close to the source material in the way the story plays out and most of their likenesses. The combat is robust and fast paced and great to be played along with friends if you like games like the turtles beat ’em up games. It’s a shame there is no online co-op play but they have provided some ways to replay the game to improve the longevity, and it is quite fun to play through, especially if you are fans of the original films. This game was tested and reviewed on Xbox Series X/S (via a Game Pass Ultimate subscription).

Thanks to a lot of charm and reverence for the original trilogy of films, The Karate Kid: Street Rumble winds up being a really fun beat ’em up. Fans of The Karate Kid can’t go wrong by picking up this nostalgic beat ’em up, especially if they have loved ones to play with, as co-op is a blast.

For those who enjoy the Karate Kid movies and Cobra Kai TV series, there’s fun to be had with this. It’s simple but fairly effective, looks really nice, and has a few minigames to break up the action. Its combat can be an enjoyable economy of building gauges and pounding out super attacks amidst tap combos - but it tends to simmer rather than cook. The boss battles (with mostly Johnny Lawrence) are a little too placid for our liking, although the set-ups are pretty cool, especially when you find yourself in familiar movie territory. On the whole, it's nice to rumble with hordes of high school bullies, but once it’s finished there’s not a great deal to encourage repeat plays except the local multiplayer. Wax on, wax off, it’s up to you.
