While there's plenty of light-hearted arcade fun to be had with this title, and despite the sizable helping of modes and content, somehow, the gameplay experience itself just seems a little bland and hollow. There's some real challenge in the latter parts of the single-player offerings, yet far before one reaches that point, there's a real chance players will be day-dreaming of more colourful variations of the theme, such as SSX Tricky or, more recently, Steep. Snow Moto Racing Freedom is a fairly decent package, but it's also not particularly polished or distinct. Future entries should address the dodgy central physics issues and general lack of personality.

Snow Moto Racing Freedom is a disappointing follow-up to last year's surprisingly enjoyable Aqua Moto Racing Utopia. Although it features interesting open-ended tracks, the gameplay simply doesn't pull itself from racing mediocrity.

Snow Moto Racing Freedom is not a bad game but it's hopelessly mediocre in every aspect. The major problem with the game is it's all too grounded. The developers should have made it sexier by adding a flight of fantasy to it. Have fireworks and flair, an option to race around in unrealistic settings and reward players with gratuitous things such as different racer skins and soundtracks. As it is, the game is like a grumpy hermit in the Northern Scandinavian wilds, living in his little hunting cottage and settled with his bleak surroundings, baltic herring meal and the radio with one channel for weather forecasts. It's snowing everyday.

Ultimately, like Aqua Moto Racing Utopia, Snow Moto Racing Freedom just feels very unrefined. Even if the framerate was actually tolerable, the core game is pretty basic and gets boring rather quickly. The one thing going for this game is that there’s currently a lack of racing titles on the Switch and so far this is the only one dedicated to winter sports. Even so, despite there not being much else to choose from, I wouldn’t bother with this in its current state. If the framerate issues are ever addressed, then perhaps it might be fun for younger gamers, but even then it just doesn’t have much lasting appeal.
