Shame Legacy might possibly be one of the most “okay” horror games I’ve played in a while. There’s nothing about it that’s bad. It’s glitch-free, it controls well enough, it has one or two neat ideas. At the same time, nothing about it impressed me, be it its underwhelming plot, 30fps cap, or an overall lack of innovation. It’s just… there. A game worth a look if you’re into horror, but not one to expect a lot from. If anything, the best thing I can say about it is that it didn’t infuriate me or gross me out like Outlast 2 did.

Shame Legacy is unfortunately just that. A shame. It is a shame that a game with so much potential was only a two to three hour experience that was ultimately let down. The sound design created a lot of tension and the opening is very effective in demonstrating the potential for an amazing survival horror experience. While some of the game play is frustrating there is definitely the seeds of a great game hidden beneath. A game with so much potential is ultimately let down by the 2-3 hours of experience with subpar gameplay.

Shame Legacy definitely has a scare factor but is severely lacking in parts where it’s most important. Having aimed a bit too high for what they wanted, even with the game having an incredible amount of potential in terms of the lore and world setting, it has fallen short because of an overuse of cliches that have been used in just about every survival-horror game to date.
