A modern-day Western epic, Red Dead Redemption takes John Marston, a relic from the fast-closing time of the gunslinger, through an open-world filled with wildlife, mini games and shootouts. Marston sets out to hunt down his old gang mates for the government, who have taken away his family, and meets many characters emblematic of the Wild West, heroism and the new civilization along his journey.

Red Dead Redemption was a great game when it came out in 2010, and this proves it’s still a great game in 2023. While some classics from previous generations feel dated, that’s certainly not the case here – and if you missed it (or weren’t around for it) thirteen years ago, now’s the time to finally play it. And if you did play it? Maybe it’s time to play it again.

In terms of price, I do feel it is worth it; but given how much time has passed, should be something slightly cheaper despite how much work has been put into this. Red Dead Redemption is a fantastic spaghetti western in video game form that still has, and is only surpassed by the equally fantastic 2018’s Red Dead Redemption 2. In the 14 years of its release, this remains a blueprint of incredible open-world design from its characters, missions, and things to do. This is not a game of just nostalgia, but endurance over time. Red Dead Redemption is still a masterpiece, and can now finally be enjoyed to the fullest on PC.

The price, however, is literally the only bad thing I can say about what is one of my favourite gaming experiences of all time. It may be an old game now, but it is one that has aged like fine wine. The gameplay is pitch-perfect, the art direction is stunning and the story holds the same emotional impact it always did. I just can’t say a bad thing about the game itself.

Red Dead Redemption is a masterpiece that endures. Sure, it's a little rough around the edges, and the price point for this rerelease feels like a bit of a reach, but what you're getting is a weird little piece of gaming history story-driven experience that rarely comes along in such an unfiltered form. If you haven't yet ridden through its dusty landscapes, this is your sign to dive in.
