Raid is terrific fun in co-op, with interesting objectives and fine leveling and upgrade systems. If you're looking for a cooperative multiplayer-focused alternative to this fall's other big World War II game, you can't go wrong with RAID. Let's just hope Starbreeze properly supports the console versions of RAID with updates and DLC this time. Pros: - Everyone gets their own upgradable base that other players can visit. - Four distinct playable classes and lots of upgrades to earn. - Teaming up with friends to complete missions against the Nazis is super fun. Cons: - Lots of bugs, including occasional game-breaking ones. - Unintuitive menus and tiny text throughout the game. - This engine is showing its age; RAID isn't pretty. Raid: World War II costs $39.99 on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Steam. - See on the Xbox Store (opens in new tab) - See on Steam Xbox One review copy provided by the publisher. RAID: World War II is a tale of two games. On one hand, I really like the world that the game exists in and the character it tries to infuse into it, as well as the large maps to explore and learn. On the other hand, the game is lacking an online community, which this type of game really needs. Couple that with the dated look of the game, and I think the title misses the mark.

Building off the success of Payday is a decent premise for Starbreeze to explore. Raid: World War II does not successfully lead a winning campaign, however. The poor A.I., repetitive design, and technical problems had me waving a white flag long before the war should have been over. If Starbreeze plans to turn this into a long-running service game, it has a lot of work to do.
