A really fun game for young boys and girls that range from four to eight years old and for any Ryan fan that is out there.

If I was to score the game solely on my experience and comparing it to others in the genre, it would have received a much lower score for its lack of track variety and dull gameplay overall, but I’m not basing this on my experience; I’m basing it on my daughter’s, who now gets to play a video game as one of her favorite YouTube stars. If your youngster is a Ryan’s World fan, they’ll certainly enjoy this youth friendly outing with Ryan and all his friends for a few laps around the track, even if it can’t hold a flame to classics in the same genre.

As a game, its handling and level design redeem it, but the lack of track variety and the disappointing amount of content make it poor value for money.

Race with Ryan on the Xbox One has some solid arcade style driving that is worth a look at, for both fans of the YouTube channel and those looking for more kart racing. Sadly, the presentation is a bit lacking with some voice recordings sounding worse than an amateur podcast. That price point is a sticky issue at £34.99 too, especially when you consider a much better kart racer – Crash Team Racing – is only £29.99.

Really, though, there’s no reason why you should put up with a kart-racer that’s merely fine when you have so many other better options out there, most of which are just as suitable for the demographic Race with Ryan is aiming for. Admittedly, none of those are tie-ins with YouTube channels, so if you’re getting it because of that, it’s hardly the most offensive licensed game ever, so it’s not torture.

Putting our opinion on the cynical Ryan phenomenon to one side, the resulting game is nevertheless a slightly below-average kart racer that handles reasonably well but generally underwhelms, from the pitifully small number of tracks to the uninspired, floaty-light weaponry. Give your kids a Mario, Sonic or Crash racer instead; they may be young, but they aren’t stupid.

I give kudos to Ryan. He’s a cute kid, a millionaire before he’s reached double digits, and I wish him the best. But while this title might work as fan service, as a game it’s just poor. With only six tracks and numerous other problems, why spend $39.99 when Team Sonic Racing is the same price (or less) on Nintendo Switch? Kids deserve higher-quality than what’s presented here.Have a six-year-old child looking for a quality Nintendo Switch games? Let me steer you towards a couple of inexpensive options: Color Zen Kids and Teddy the Wanderer. Review: Race with Ryan (Nintendo Switch) Poor I give kudos to Ryan.
