A combination of a great price, some brilliantly challenging mechanics, a rather unique premise, a quality visual look and that banging soundtrack pumping away, ensures that Octahedron should be right up there near the top of your wanted list.

Indie games have shown the value of smaller studios making unique games beholden only to their vision and not the economic constraints of AAA development, and Demimonde’s Octahedron now stands shoulder to shoulder with the best of them, thanks to an amazing soundtrack, creative level design and presentation, and singular vision.

Octahedron is an incredible challenge and one that easily inspires creative bouts of swearing, but with a little bit of practice you’ll be dancing through levels that seemed impossible like a polygon-headed disco-ninja.

Octahedron is a great platforming experience with a unique identity, style, and gameplay. Its dozens upon dozens of levels are a tiny bit on the short side, but mastering those challenges is what kept me coming back for more. It’s one of the more distinct offerings as part of the Square Enix Collective and is something of a hidden gem.

Octahedron is a bombastic, prismatic, punishing rhythm game that is a ton of fun, while it lasts. The game’s narrative is far dourer than the 80s neon electro-synth aesthetic you spend most of your time in, but it is certainly mechanically satisfying enough to run through the whole thing more than once – and I found myself looking up the soundtrack long after I’d had my fill of the game itself.

With almost 50 levels, multiple difficulties, and four medals to unlock in each stage, Octahedron has enough content to keep players busy for hours. Overall, it's a smart, fresh, and creative platformer that stands tall with modern indie classics like Super Meat Boy.

Because there are so many entries in the platformer genre, a game really has to do something special to stand out from the crowd. Octahedron uses an alluring presentation, a bumping soundtrack, and excellent gameplay to position itself as one of the first Nindies darlings of the year. The final stages of the game are an absolute trip, and for much of my time with it I simply could not put Octahedron down. A free demo on the eShop leaves no excuse for ignoring this one. You don’t need to get dressed up or shell out for expensive drinks to feel like you’re at the club. Just play Octahedron.

Intelligent puzzle design, striking visuals and a soundtrack straight out of late 90s raves make for one of the most interesting titles I’ve experienced so far this year, even if it is occasionally marred by difficult and frustrating puzzle design. OCTAHEDRON (Reviewed on Windows) Excellent.

Octahedron can take a while to click, but once you’re past the early stages and get over the denial of your abilities it really surprises with its inventiveness.
