CRITIK
"A destiny tossed about, in an insane world--- A flame of life blazing forth, in a dying world--- And now, one more future that is spun--- This is the alternative ending unable to be told before: A very great, a very tiny, a very precious... Tale of love and courage." Muv-Luv Alternative continues the story of Shirogane Takeru after the events of the original Muv-Luv. This is a tale of a love so deep it breaks all barriers; about courage in the face of adversity and overcoming hardships. Takeru encounters insurmountable odds while his entire world is turned upside down around him.

Muv-Luv alternative is the perfect crowning for an emotional rollercoaster that will shake you up harder than the cockpit of a TSF at full running speed. Y

With the build-up of two prior games to firmly provide a foundation, some truly dark and disturbing moments, emotional highs, strong character connections, and overall glimmer of hope, there is no doubt as to what the final score could be for Muv-Luv Alternative. To consider it anything less than wonderful is to short-sell it due to its powerful moments and well-written plot.

A high score with the caveat that it’s a VN that kept me thoroughly entertained through its thick and thin, highs and lows, as well as the assumption that this is the culmination of series as whole.

What you are here for is the titillation, and to pretend otherwise would be a joke. There is more than enough to keep a fan occupied, despite the long wait for events to reach their climax. Muv-Luv Alternative is a great title within the genre, as it explores some really interesting sci-fi and political ideas.

On its own this is still an excellent story, albeit one bogged down by all the most insufferable visual novel tropes. But without the first two parts, the story still feels incomplete. Even my recommendation is littered with ‘if, then’ statements.
