I certainly will keep on playing. A game like this that has over 95 different species that need to be curated, hundreds of objects to research and decorations to be… decorated? There is still so much to be done! I'm ready to dive right back in. A conundrum of killing all the things, but also into unicorns and glitter pens.

A charming management game that's designed entirely for your convenience. Very easy to learn, with enough complexity to keep you entertained for hours.

If you like management and/or simulation games and are fond of fishies, Megaquarium is the game for you! Go wild as you progress from a small-time aquarium builder to Aquaman himself, creating a multitude of massive glass prisons for all your water-based tourist attractions and money-makers. The progression is done really well, unlocking new items and fish to research and obtain as you move through the lengthy campaign – you’ll never feel like you have nothing new to show off or interesting for your paying customers to take advantage of. The stability towards the end of the game is pretty bad, but it never affected my enjoyment as it only became an ‘issue’ in the very final mission of the final level. It’s hard for resource management and simulation games to make a seamless transition from PC to console but I felt Megaquarium did a really good job of it.

Despite some nitpicks with the visuals in the game Megaquarium is a great addition to any tycoon fan’s library. The transition to console feels natural and great thanks to an intuitive control scheme and the game will keep you busy with a huge variety of aquatic life and items to grow your aquarium with. *Megaquarium is available now on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC.

Megaquarium is an fantastic tycoon title with a surprising amount of depth. With far more fish, crabs, sponges, and spiny blowfish than I could have expected, it goes further than the usual “set it and forget it” model that most tycoon titles use. The team continues to hammer away at improvements, so here’s hoping that they can iron out the last few UI and tasking issues to make this one truly great.
