An impossible adventure awaits in Little Orpheus, the brand-new adventure from award-winning studio The Chinese Room, a Sumo Digital Studio, available from today exclusively on Apple Arcade. From the BAFTA-winning team behind Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture and Dear Esther, Little Orpheus is a side-scrolling adventure game about one comrade’s journey to the centre of the Earth. The year is 1962. NASA are trying to put a man on the moon but in a remote corner of Siberia, a Soviet cosmonaut is heading in the other direction. Ivan Ivanovich is dropped into an extinct volcano in his exploration capsule, Little Orpheus, to explore the centre of the earth. Ivan vanishes, emerging three years later claiming to have saved the world. In a top-secret bunker, he is debriefed by the fearsome General Yurkovoi. Little Orpheus casts players as Ivan as he recounts an adventure beyond belief: a tale of lost civilizations, undersea kingdoms, and prehistoric jungles deep below the Earth’s crust. Brought to you in glorious technicolour with visuals inspired by a bygone era of adventure, Little Orpheus is a serialised adventure inspired by classic movies like Flash Gordon, Sinbad and The Land That Time Forgot.

This is an easy recommendation to anyone who loves a unique and interesting story and yearns for a casual platforming experience. An adventure to be discovered by many. Little Orpheus has creativity, beautiful visuals and smart witty characterisation. With a run time of three hours split into nine small episodes, it certainly will not disrespect your time. Little Orpheus drops September 13th 2022 on PlayStation 4 (review platform), Xbox One, Xbox Series S|X, PC and Nintendo Switch.

Little Orpheus is more of an interactive story mixed with platformer elements. The game keeps everything really simple and is very short in length, with not much in terms of replay value unless you are a completionist. The low difficulty can also be a turn-off for some. However, the combination of an interesting story, funny characters, and a whimsical, pretty world paired with straightforward gameplay can be a reason for many to give this title a shot.

Little Orpheus is a casual cinematic adventure that is light on gameplay but won me over with its impressive narrative and art style. If you’re looking for a challenge you won’t find it here. But if you’re looking for a good story to share with family or loved ones that will take you to unexpected places that you certainly won’t forget then I highly recommend picking up Little Orpheus.

Little Orpheus delivers on The Chinese Rooms’ goal of crafting the types of games that we love and are familiar with but delivering them with their own brand of twist. An epic tale filled with humour, gorgeously designed worlds and truly stellar score and voice acting. This adventure is one that I really didn’t want to end as I had become so enamoured with the 2 main characters and the dynamic between them. I sincerely hope that we get more of Ivan Ivanovich in some shape or form in the future.
