"An escape-the-room adventure game that can only be experienced in VR, Last Labyrinth was created specifically for the VR age. Players must work to escape a mansion full of hidden dangers with a mysterious girl that appears before them. Development of Last Labyrinth is being spearheaded by Hiromichi Takahashi, director and producer of the acclaimed Doko Demo Issyo (PlayStation 1999) series and co-creator of Toro (the Sony Cat). Working alongside Mr. Takahashi is a diverse team, many of whom are industry veterans with resumes featuring titles that are household names around the world. Debuting at TOKYO GAME SHOW 2016, the Last Labyrinth preview demo created a lot of buzz, with a long line of attendees waiting to play. Media outlets from around Japan and abroad covered the announcement of the game, and 4Gamer.net nominated Last Labyrinth for the Tokyo Game Show 2016 Media Award in the Indie category. The interest continued to grow at Laval Virtual 2017, where Last Labyrinth received the Best VR/AR Contents award. Last Labyrinth will make its return to the TGS VR/AR Area at Tokyo Game Show 2018 with a special demo version. And, in Spring of 2019, the full version of Last Labyrinth will receive a multi-platform, worldwide release."

Last Labyrinth is without a doubt one of the most distinctive, unforgettable, and dare I say important VR titles released in recent years that will stick with players long after they've escaped its imposing facility Last Labyrinth places you in the role of an unnamed character who finds themselves strapped to a wheelchair in a dark room with no memory of how they got there.

Last Labyrinth is a haunting, melancholy work of art held together by a simple premise done remarkably well. Its aesthetics are lush, its mechanics simple but deep, and its core promise of taking care of a virtual child completely delivered on. Irrevocably, it’s one of the titles of 2019, and one of the absolute best things to happen to the medium of VR. A PC review copy of Last Labyrinth was provided to TheGamer for this review.

Last Labyrinth does some amazing things with VR. The way it tells a story through themes of death had me eager to press on through this nightmare of a game. Instructing Katia came naturally, but I do wish I could understand her thoughts about some of the later puzzles. This could have saved me a lot of frustration in the later parts where I’m staring at a room for 30 minutes doing everything I can to not die. I rarely come out of VR experiences with a positive outlook, but if more games take unique approaches to this style of storytelling, then sign me up.
