Gin Carter and his posse chase down the devil himself using all the supernatural powers at their disposal to do so. 5 Supernatural Slinging It’s been some time now since the first Hard West was released and I was just starting to get a hankering to fire it up again when the opportunity to review Hard West 2 came in… perfect timing. I really enjoyed the western take on the turn based game mechanic we have seen in other titles like Fallout and UFO and Hard West 2 didn’t let me down in the fun stakes. You play as Gin Carter and with your motley crew you attempt to rob the legendary “Ghost Train”, rumoured to be loaded with federal gold it seems like the perfect target.

From small things like great sound effects and voice acting, to more fundamental victories like its mix of overworld exploration and solid strategy-style combat sections, there’s a lot to love here. Hardcore veterans are better taken care of with new layers of strategy and variety, while newcomers are still treated to a markedly more attainable experience than most of its counterparts in the genre provide.

The final pull of the trigger is a satisfying one, but I’m definitely not ready to ride off into the sunset. Hard West 2 hits the bullseye on creating a fun and infatuating strategic RPG experience and I look forward to saddling up on whatever the team from Ice Code games has for us next.

Hard West 2 offers a fun mix of text adventures and turn-based strategy battles, with just enough of each to keep things fresh. Awesome and unique mechanics are highlighted in a combat system that forces players outside of their "overwatch" comfort zones, allowing new tactics not seen before in games of this ilk.
