They say to shoot for the moon and if you miss you’ll be among the stars. Gallic Wars: Battle Simulator shoots for the moon but you quickly realize you’re not in a rocket ship but a bicycle with training wheels. Trying to fly a bicycle to the moon has a lot of issues, in this case it's the gameplay elements, the obscure camera angles, and the repetitiveness that has Gallic Wars landing in the grass five feet from takeoff. * The product in this article was sent to us by the developer/company. I'm pulled towards anything that isn't driving or sports related; having said that, I love a good kart racer.

Although Gallic Wars: Battle Simulator has some positive aspects, the game feels very much like a mobile title rather than a fully-fledged console release, best played in small bursts. The gameplay mechanics are just too basic to be enjoyable for any significant period of time and after just a few battles, the overall experience starts to feel tedious. It’s disappointing considering that it is trying to do something unique but it just fails to hit the ground running. Gallic Wars: Battle Simulator is a game that takes an interesting idea and smothers it under a pile of bad controls, dubious design decisions and poor gameplay. If you like Asterix, or strategy games, I can’t recommend this game to you. If you like Totally Accurate Battle simulator, first of all, my sympathies, and secondly, the controls here are so difficult to use that even fans of T.A.B.S.

It was terrible at first but the game got a tiny bit better as I played. However, there is absolutely nothing to do besides the one campaign. It’s extremely limited. There’s so little to do that it’s hard to even talk about it. After gaining a few of the generals, it becomes a mindless dump and fight. You dump all your troops absolutely anywhere, then just start the battle and win. Sure, there are a few good ideas but they were barely scratching the surface. The controls are so difficult to master that even after more than ten hours of playing, I was still struggling at times to figure out how to do specific actions. And there really aren’t many to know. At least the game doesn’t come with a big cost associated with it, so if you’re an achievement hunter it might be worth your completion. Score: No Appeal Gallic Wars: Battle Simulator was published by Ultimate Games and developed by MadGamesmith on Xbox One.

I find Gallic Wars: Battle Simulator more of a proof of concept than an actual game. There are so many far superior options in the tactics category that this game is even a waste of time for beginners. Avoid like the plague.
