While Evolved may not be a game of the year contender and definitely has some faults, it is also probably the most fun I have had in a mech game since the original MechAssault on Xbox. If you do not feel too burned for Square’s new direction for this installment of Front Mission and you are dying to for a new mech game, than you cannot go wrong with Evolved.

Front Mission Evolved can sit well with mech game fans especially with its multiplayer. However as a third-person action shooter not very much stands out unless you quite enjoy boss battles with lots and lots of strafing, reloading, repairing and firing volley after volley of missiles, rockets and bullets. This you rinse and repeat whilst figuring out the best way to minimise you wanzer getting a face load of ouch, and mentally juggling spawn timers for more ammo and armour repair.

Front Mission Evolved is at its core an uninspired third-person mech fighter that throws out the tenets of the series, a move that may turn off long time players. Mech fans will find it lukewarm at best and the rest of us are left to wonder just who the game will appeal to. Review scores are provided as a rough guide only.
