CRITIK
F.E.A.R. 3 is a sequel to F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin and the third installment of the series. New to this game is the ability to play the campaign in either single-player mode or co-op mode. As well as being playable online, co-op is also available offline via split screen. In single-player mode, the player can initially only play as Point Man. However, upon the completion of each level, the player unlocks the ability to play through that level as Paxton Fettel. Level layout, cutscenes, and dialogue are identical irrespective of which character the player is using.

In the end, F.E.A.R. 3 is a great game. It's basically an action game with a little bit of horror thrown in, and when you're in the scarier parts of the game, like the painfully brief frozen meat locker that I won't soon forget, it'll be easy to recognize contributions from horror legends like John Carpenter and Steve Niles.

A lack of scares doesn't mean that this game isn't an incredibly fun and competent video game. It's got some great gun based violence on display, fun cooperative action and two unique characters to round out the mix. Really the only drawback that should stop you from buying this is if you really hate games with gimped split-screen gameplay or are expecting a tense, nail-biting horror video game.
