It’s a refreshing change compared to other entries I’ve played in and around the genre and one that ensures I’ll keep coming back to Descenders regularly for the foreseeable future. After all, a few more runs and I might just be able to make it through the forest completely unscathed.

The procedurally generated tracks look and feel great, providing plenty of challenge for those looking to master the downhill course, but being welcoming enough for casual players looking for something more than another Trials-clone. The game’s community is still growing, but offers a fun dynamic that adds to the experience.

Descenders is an absolute delight that I can highly recommend to anyone in the mood for a good, silly, arcade-style racer with a significant but optional extreme sports stunt element. It’s a game with potentially limitless replayability, yet one which doesn’t make unreasonable demands of your time; it’s the perfect thing to have on the back-burner when you’re in the mood to just play something which excites and thrills, but which doesn’t demand commitment or too much brainpower. Although the Steam sale has passed at the time of writing, the game is absolutely worth its £19.49 asking price on PC — and physical versions are available for PS4, Nintendo Switch and Xbox One, too.

Descenders is a top tier extreme sports game, translating the feeling of riding a bike down a hill with incredible precision. So many small design details pull the package together to provide a wonderfully kinetic experience. Rating: 4/5 + Translates the feeling of downhill bike riding with extreme accuracy + Play it your way, only incentives - no punishment + Great music and visuals - Not for people who aren’t adrenaline junkies - November 7, 2020 at 5:37 pm “It’s all incentive carrot, without any punishing stick“. This sentence sold me. I originally saw this game and thought it looked cool, but then read the blurb on it, and it turned me off.
