Danger Zone is an all new 3D vehicular destruction game, a genre we know well. The concept is simple : crash for cash by creating the biggest car crash. The Danger Zone is a virtual Crash Testing Facility where players step into the shoes of a dangerous driver and are challenged to survive a variety of spectacular crash testing scenarios. It’s easy to crash, but can you also grab all of the Bonus Pickups? Powered by Unreal Engine, Danger Zone combines real physical crashes with explosive gameplay. Shunt vehicles into oncoming traffic, take down trailers to shed their payloads and use your explosive “SmashBreaker” to move your vehicle around. The more explosions you cause, the bigger your score. If you’re feeling burnt out by congestion and jammed roads, take the highway to the Danger Zone. Take your revenge on rush hour traffic. This place is a paradise for those who like their driving flame-grilled.

Three Fields Entertainment has made a highly enjoyable game about smashing and destroying cars by utilizing the environment to the fullest to maximize your score. While they can’t call the game Burnout or “Crash Mode” they did make good one what made that game and mode such a huge success many years ago. The leaderboards encourage retrying to best that stranger, friend, or even yourself ad infinitum. Danger Zone re-creates that magic in a small, digestible way that doesn’t overstay its welcome.

It’s great fun and easy to play, but hard to master. It is delightful on your own playing against the world’s high scores and those of your friends, but also wholesomely entertaining as a party game given each go takes seconds or minutes and you can try again very quickly. There is no right or wrong way to play and many sets of tactics which can be employed to garner great results. You might blast through the levels, or collect all the trophies, or spend ages just chasing the top of that leaderboard. You can play it in multiple ways, trying to achieve varied goals. I wholeheartedly suggest you take the highway to the Danger Zone. There, I said it.

It may be short, but it is ever so sweet. Hopefully we can see more of this, either with a full-on sequel or some DLC, because it’s been too damn long since we’ve had a proper Burnout game.

Destroying cars and causing mayhem is inarguably fun, and Danger Zone capitalises fully on this. It's simple, but the kind of game you could lose an evening to. 7 Gamezeen is a Zeen theme demo site.

The excitement it provides is still some way away from that of the Burnout series’ crash junctions, but in their absence it goes some distance to fill the void. With more content, a slew of gameplay enhancements and noticeably improved visuals, Xbox One owners may have had to wait for Danger Zone, but it’s definitely been worth it.
