hat is important to any great visual novel is that it has great writing, and the Danganronpa games are by turns hilarious, reflective, intense and jovial, the characters are all unique and interesting, and the twists and turns are often startling. Visual novels just don’t get better than these.

Replaying these games once again really hammers home just how great they are. Even with knowing every chapter, every death, every culprit, and every twist, there is still just so much to enjoy here. So many funny moments, great characters, fantastically surreal situations, a superb soundtrack - it's just all so good. So good, in fact, that the lack of any new content can even be overlooked. It's even better for those new to the franchise that can experience all the twists and surprises that are there in abundance. This is a release that even the home audience of Japan hasn't got yet (nor has it even been announced!), and one that Western fans should snatch up.

Danganronpa 1-2 Reload is an easy recommendation. It’s a visual novel, yes. You’re going to spend a lot of time reading. However, just about everything you read will entertain you in some way as you watch these incredibly strong personalities play off each other. If you have any hangups about playing a visual novel, let them go.

It’s really exciting that non-Vita players are finally getting a chance to play this series with Danganronpa 1&2 Reload. Even having played them through multiple times before, I found that I couldn’t put the controller down as I experienced them again on PS4, and not just because of my review. Though they start off a little slow, the pace at which they begin to move is exceptionally thrilling, and you’ll find yourself drawn in until the very end, especially if it’s your first time through. My hope is that you’ll give in to the despair that is Danganronpa. Danganronpa 1&2 Reload review copy provided by publisher.
