The Company of Heroes Collection combines the critically acclaimed World War II game and its two exhilarating expansions into one fully loaded, real-time strategy package. Take command on both sides of the Battle for Normandy, mastering fast-moving combat and advanced squad-based tactics on the explosive battlefields of northern France. In Operation Overlord, lead the US Army's Able Company during the D-Day landings, and spearhead the charge from the beaches of Normandy. Then, direct US, British and German forces alike in the Opposing Fronts and Tales of Valor expansions, with new campaigns as well as diverse new factions to command in the hugely replayable Skirmish mode.

If you don’t have access to an iPad or just want to play Company of Heroes with a controller, the Switch version is superb value with its excellent conversion. My favorite portable version remains the iPad, but there’s no denying how good Company of Heroes feels on Switch in this conversion. SwitchArcade Score: 4.5/5 Notable New Releases Company of Heroes Collection ($29.99) As you can see above, the Company of Heroes Collection from Feral Interactive is excellent, and well worth your time if you want to sample an RTS classic on Switch.

For history buffs, especially the military history wonks, Company of Heroes Collection falls in “must-have” territory. The game has multiple difficulty levels so you can ease your way into it and replay for a while to test your skills, and the Switch control system doesn’t get in the way as much as you might expect. If you like a good RTS or you like a good WWII game, this is a very good title to have in your Switch library.

The gameplay and tone of Company of Heroes hold up wonderfully more than two decades after its initial release, but the lack of any multiplayer options a launch makes Company of Heroes Collection feel sadly incomplete. The updated controls take some getting used to but still let you feel like a general moving their troops across the fields of Europe. Even with these flaws, though, this game is well worth investing in if you’re an RTS fan looking to step back into a classic title. Fingers crossed for the planned multiplayer update.

The Company of Heroes Collection for Nintendo Switch is one of those projects. It’s such an old game, and the genre to console conversion comes burdened with so much implied work. And even if it was ported over successfully, the RTS audience on Switch is hardly overwhelming. And this definitely wasn’t a case of a successful port, with the missing multiplayer, control issues, and puzzling performance decisions. While I believe that you simply can’t enjoy a proper RTS to the fullest with a controller, I don’t deny I could be wrong.
