Despite not having any interest in cars whatsoever, Car Mechanic Simulator blew me away with its realism and fun factor. Sure, some people may see this game as a boring, mundane job-like experience where all you do is repair cars for the various clients who contact your shop, but others will find relaxation, satisfaction, and interesting educational aspects to the same concept. As someone who loves to take things apart to find the fault in them, then put them back together and witness the once-dead device come to life, this game was perfect for me. Progression is, unfortunately, a long and tedious journey which will take you many hours until you begin to unlock the more advanced tools and abilities which makes the game much more entertaining and enjoyable. My advice – stick with it as it’s worth it. If you’re a fan of simulation games, know someone who is a ‘casual gamer’ but likes to take things apart and fix them, or if yourself or someone you know is really into maintaining and fixing cars, you really should pick up Car Mechanic Simulator and give it a go.

Car Mechanic Simulator may be a little rough around the edges as far as its optimization goes, but speaking specifically of its functionalities and its mechanics, it’s easily one of the most well rounded sims in recent memory. Furthermore, it doesn’t alienate the inexperienced, and instead, does a wonderful job at keeping its in-depth gameplay and its deep systems both accessible and easy to digest. I wholly recommend giving it a chance. This game was tested and reviewed on Xbox One.

If you’ve ever fancied having a go at being a mechanic but don’t like being covered in oil or having to actually do hard work, Car Mechanic Simulator is easy to recommend. As a game it’s far from being perfect, and it certainly isn’t for the masses, but it’ll prove to be entertaining to those who want to virtually fiddle under car bonnets to their heart’s content. There really is nothing else quite like it.

Ultimately, Car Mechanic Simulator demands a lot of patience. Patience to learn how to play it, patience to work with its clumsy menus and controls, and patience to eke your way through its deep, glacial progression systems. Tolerate this and it has a rewarding and essentially peerless gameplay loop to offer car fanatics – and maybe the odd apprentice, too.

This really all depends on whether you enjoy doing the same thing over and over again. Personally, after writing this review, I honestly can’t see me going back to the Switch version when I can power up my PC and play a deeper version of the same game, albeit made by different developers. This “lite” version of the game, however, will be fine for newcomers to the series to get a taste of repairing cars and earning some steady cash.
