There’s some quick fun to be had here, but if you want meaningful cricket on consoles, stick with Ashes Cricket. Big Bash Boom was reviewed using a promotional code on PlayStation 4, as provided by Big Ant Studios.

Big Bash Boom's potential is clear. Despite its singular focus making it feel a little barebones when compared to other cricket titles, the shift towards arcade gameplay feels perfectly suited to the relatively flamboyant presentation of the BBL. But it's washed with bugs that affect the core of the experience, and those technical issues make it difficult to warm up to.

Big Bash Boom could have been an excellent over-the-top game to play for fans of Big Bash League. However, in its current form it feels like it was rushed to the market without enough testing, and suffers a lot because of that.

In all, Big Bash Boom feels like a noble first effort in the arcade genre for Big Ant. Issues with graphics and a lack of game modes are pretty well countered by some solid gameplay and a nice sense of humour. The inclusion of full playing rosters from both the men’s and women’s leagues is wonderful and playing with friends a real treat.
