Alice Gear Aegis CS: Concerto of Simulatrix is welcome return to a genre long thought dead. And though this is still merely the first stepping stone, it’s going in the right direction, it just needs some room to grow and cultivate. The gameplay loop is quick but ever so fierce and memorable in design, and while not every one of the game’s playable Actresses is a star, there are more than enough for just about everyone to be able to sink their teeth into. So if you can forgive the game’s steep learning curve and are looking for the closest thing to Virtual ON to release in recent years, then look no further. Alice Gear Aegis CS will scratch that itch.

Overall I really enjoyed my time with Alice Gear Aegis CS Concerto of Simulatrix. The combat is a lot of fun, the characters are great and the customization here will keep you busy for hours. I spent about 10 hours and competed each of the girl’s story modes at least once. I feel like at the $29.99 price tag for a digital copy, this one is a nobrainer for fans of anime with cute girls or action game fans. You won’t be disappointed.

While absolutely a unique sort of 3D space mech-suit-anime-girl fighter with plenty of flair, overall depth is a bit of an issue Do you like fighting games that deviate a bit from the norm in their style, in this case having you battle in a 3D spherical space, and being able to attack with both melee and ranged weapons? Do you like anime gals that you can dress up in a variety of ways with an assortment of costumes and accessories you’ll acquire through achievements or in-game currency buys? If you answered yes to only one of them (or perhaps none) you may need to do some soul searching on this experience, but if you’re down with the concept of both, you dig a niche that this represents pretty well though not without a few caveats.

Alice Gear Aegis CS: Concerto of Simulatrix looks and plays like it would be better suited to be a mobile game. There is nothing for players to unlock through progression. The gold earned is only for outfits in the game. The weapons aren’t upgradable in Aegis. The game’s synopsis led me to believe I would be repelling the vice threat, not repeating a tournament with different characters like Tekken.
